  • Its name will be Siddhartha.

What is Vikram Samvat?

Vikram Samvat. It is based on lunar and solar calculations. It starts from the reign of Chakravarti King Vikramaditya of Ujjain. Vikram Samvat is composed in the famous Raj Tilak Ki Tathya. It was discovered by astronomer Varah Meher. Varah Meher was one of the Navratnas of King Vikramaditya. In Vikram Samvat, the year is based on the Sun, and the months depend on the movement of the Moon.

Calculation of time according to Hindu Nav Varsh.

The Earth takes a year to complete one revolution around the Sun, which is a little more than 365 days. According to the ancient text Surya Siddhanta, the Earth takes 365 days, 15 Ghatis, 31 Fals, and 24 Per Fals to revolve around the Sun. Modern science was able to calculate this only a few years ago. Before this, in Europe, a year used to be 360 days. In Vikram Samvat, the month is not of 30 or 31 days, but of 28, 30, and 30 days. Every third year there is an extra month, which is called Adhik Maas or Malmas, so that it can be matched with the solar year. Due to this, the months and seasons are coordinated in the most accurate manner. This is the reason why all Indian beliefs and sects celebrate their festivals and auspicious times according to Vikram Samvat. In this, the first date of the Shukla Paksh of the Chaitra month, i.e., Pratipada, is considered to be the beginning of the new year. However, variations can be seen in different regions of the country regarding this. For example, in Gujarat, it is considered to start from Kartik Shukla Pratipada.

On the other hand, there is the official Shak Samvat. In this too, the names and order of the months are the same as in Vikram Samvat—Chaitra, Vaishakh, Jyeshtha, Ashadha, Shravan, Bhadrapad, Ashwin, Kartik, Paush, Marg, Shirsha, Magh, and Phalgun. In both the Samvat, there is Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha based on the position of the moon.

Vikram Samvat is older than the English calendar.

Vikram Samvat begins 57 years earlier, and the festivals of all the branches of Sanatan Dharma are decided on its basis. For example, if the year of the English calendar is 2024, then the year of Vikram Samvat will be 2081. Most of the countries of the world were colonies of Western Christian countries for a long time, due to which the AD calendar is internationally accepted today. But after independence, the one that was chosen as the national calendar is not Vikram Samvat but Shak Samvat. It begins one year after Vikram Samvat and 78 years after the English calendar. Despite having a greater connection with Indian culture,

Why did Vikram Samvat not become the national calendar?

We will know the answer to this question in this article. First of all, let's talk about But in Shak Samvat, the dates start from midnight like the English calendar and continue till midnight of the next day. Every month is fixed for 30 days. Its New Year starts from March 22. In the year 1955, the Government of India formed a Calendar Reform Committee, on whose recommendation the sun-based Shak Samvat was accepted as the official calendar. But in reality, this decision was taken under the pressure to look like the English calendar and to become secular. It was taken from Muslims and Christians. Earlier the Shakas had also attacked India, though they got assimilated into the Indian culture. It will be called a kind of colonial mentality that after independence, an unpopular calendar was imposed on the Indians. Perhaps they could not digest the fact that how could a Hindu calendar be older and more scientific than the British. Shaka Samvat is today just a formal calendar and has become so. Earlier, on government programs and inauguration strips, the dates of Shaka Samvat were written. Slowly that too is disappearing and now only the dates of the English calendar are visible. The system of a year of 12 months and a week of 7 days in the whole world is a gift of Vikram Samvat.

Vikram Samvat is a more scientific calendar.

Vikram Samvat is more scientific, but it was not implemented by calling it impractical and complex, whereas Vikram Samvat is in vogue in Nepal. Sanskrit scholar and Bharat Ratna awardee Professor Pandurang Vaman Kane, in his book Dharmashastra Ka Itihas, writes that Vikram Samvat is the most scientific. In the western calendar, there are no solar eclipses or lunar eclipses, and there is no indication of other astronomical circumstances, whereas Vikram Samvat says that an eclipse will occur on a particular day. It also tells about the complete position of the planets and constellations along with the seasons.

After 2000 years of Vikram Samvat.

When 2000 years of Vikram Samvat were completed, programs were organized across the country to celebrate it according to the AD calendar. It was the year 1944. Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Scindia of Gwalior had announced to celebrate Vikram Utsav. On his initiative, Vikram Smriti Granth was published. It was edited by Pandit Suryanarayan Vyas. It is considered to be the most authentic book on King Vikramaditya Kalidas and the city of Ujjain. You can find the link to this book on Google.

On the occasion of the completion of 2 years, a film by the name Vikramaditya was also made, which was released in the year 1945. It was directed by Vijay Bhatt. Its songs are available on this site. Links to these are also given in the description.

As long as there is gratitude, every Indian, till then, this feeling should keep coming in the heart of every Indian, this feeling should keep coming in the heart, this is Vikram Samvat, this is Vikram Samvat, hai ki Jai, Hoy, Ho Vikram Utsav was also attended by freedom fighters like Veer Savarkar and KM Munshi; their effort was to use it as an opportunity for the cultural revival of India, but the depression caused by the partition of India and then the displacement and genocide of the Hindus spoiled this entire effort. But Nehruvian secularism spoiled the point, and on top of that, Nehruvian secularism completed the remaining task. Secular governments may have abandoned Vikram Samvat, but they could not remove it from the consciousness of Indian people.

How can we implement Vikram Samvat?

Not only on festivals, people like to have Vikrami dates inscribed on their homes and other establishments. In Delhi, this stone plaque has been installed on the school for Hindus displaced from DI Khan of Pakistan. You can see how prominently the date of Vikram Samvat has been mentioned on it. In Rajasthan, now there is a demand that the foundation day of the state be celebrated on Chaitra Pratipada instead of March 30. The consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya took place on the Dwadashi date of Shukla Paksha, Paush month of Vikram Samvat 2080. It has to be ensured that its anniversary is celebrated according to the Panchang and not on January 22. The birth and death anniversaries of great men like Maharana Pratap and Chhatrapati Shivaji should also be celebrated as per Vikram Samvat. The time has come that the government It should be demanded that Vikram Samvat be declared the official calendar, and it should also be made mandatory to mention the date of the Indian calendar in government programs. The new generation of the country is becoming aware, and people will themselves understand that the English calendar is our compulsion, but Vikram Samvat is our intellectual heritage, of which we all are proud.
